For those of you who read my posts and have worked with me, you could attest to the amount of things that were on my desk. Things were necessary for work, but of course I had my plants, a seven inch cut out of Queen Elizabeth II, a coffee maker , pictures of my Zush and Kasia hung up on file cabinet amidst office memos and so on..
Fast forward two and one-half years into semi-retirement. My desk is an empty sewing cabinet. My MacBook Pro holds a place of honor, as does a Penn State Christmas ball from one of my besties,Kathy. Then, after Zush left me, it became a partial shrine to her.Her paw print I made last year, the paw print the pet crematory gave me when she passed away, in addition to a ton of her pictures.
Being not truly retired, but occasionally working, there are papers and mail that come in and usually sit atop my desk until I get to the point where I just can’t take it anymore. I’ll be curious to see how long this will hold out.
One of the few things they neglect to tell you when you retire from a desk job is that, despite your best efforts, you still will probably need a desk at home.
I had one at the old house that we sold in Wissahickon, and suffered with a tv table until we moved down here to Undisclosed.Since the house has been up, I have had the tendency to throw my laptop on top of the breakfast bar and plug-in and get started. Well, now that, well, for now at least, I don’t have to report to a desk in the morning, I still need somewhere to plant stationary and pens and stamps and the like.
We went looking at desks tonight but nothing rang any bells. In the meanwhile I bought a large accordion file with dividers in it to serve as a stopgap until the desk makes an appearance.
I seriously didn’t think I’d missing a desk so soon.LOL
I was ready to pack it in today.
There comes a point when you are tired of being the work mule. When people are displeased with me, I hear about it.Work need to get done?**Raising my hand**..it gets dumped on my desk. But there comes a time when you get tired of being dumped on.
I have people telling me don’t say anything, you’re almost done.
Enough is enough.
Tomorrow is a new day.
Welcome to the beginning of my work slow-down…..
Maybe folks will get the message.
