School’s Out…

…for spring break.

The last few weeks, having sporadically taught sixth grade, I felt like I was in Florida with the students during spring break.

You see, for fourth thru sixth grade, swimming is compulsory in gym. After all, Cape May is on the Atlantic Coastline. I remember whenI started here, I thought that it was an awesome idea, and that it makes a lot of sense. When I would go with the students to their gym class, the pool looks so inviting..The rough part? The humidity in the pool area makes me feel like Florida in July.

Although I will miss the students for a little bit, I do admit that it will be nice to sleep in once in a while for the next few days, and more importantly, spending quality time with Jim and Kasia.

25 Years Ago Today

If you have followed this blog with any regularity, you know I have an interest in the story of the Halloween gale of 1991.This is the storm that took the lives of many in the Northeast part of the country, including the crew of the Andrea Gail, a swordfish boat out of Gloucester ,Massachusetts.

Ironic that Jim and I went for a quick dinner to the Lobster House in Cape May. You really get a sense, since being down here, of the lives of commercial fishermen. Our neighbor, Nate,commercial scalloper, is gone out to sea a lot. We look out for him, and pray for his safe return.

So with today being the twenty-fifth anniversary of the sinking of the Andrea Gail, let’s all be mindful of “they who go down to the Sea in ships”…and keep a good thought to all who risk their lives to bring food to our table.

Sunset Parade

One of the perks of being at Undisclosed is our close range to the United States Coast Guard training base in Cape May, New Jersey.

We had been there a month ago to hear a speaker talk about the Coast Guard involvement in the “Perfect Storm”.Tonight we went with our friends to see the Sunset Parade.They open the base to the public, and as long as you have valid picture identification,you can come in.The let you go to the parade field and it is so impressive. You see the recruits all lined up in the units.
There is the Coast Guard band at one corner of the field.There is a reviewing stand where the base commanders stand and a few V.I.P’s, and the units, along with their 10 person precision drill team, parade through the grounds.

The fact the America goes into turmoil on a daily basis crossed my mind as I watched this impressive display of personnel.The national anthem gave me goosebumps: to be on a military base and see this display of their daily life was awesome.I left with even MORE respect for the Coast Guard than I had before.

Tired beyond words..

Incredible when you have to go and take medicines as prescribed by your doctor,
how tired you can get!

Jim and I went walking on the Cape May promenade last night and got in around
eleven.This morning, I feel like I was hit by a Mack truck.The Doctor had
said he wanted me to be bed rest and icing my hip.I think it’s a given that sleep
naturally follows.Yet in my head, I hear my mother saying,”Why are you sleeping mow?
What are you going to do tonight?”

The girls and I are taking the breeze in while Jim is riding his bike..maybe
THEN, a nap….lol
