Summer heat in Amity, Fourth of July vacationers, ….is it October yet..?
I am looking toward the few family and friends that will be stopping our way, which means I need to clean up this B&B for the season. Today is sheet dayand laundry day.
Tomorrow is menu makeup and housecleaning…. guests coming…not a second to lose. Squeeze in some surgery in there and July will be pretty much booked up.
Come on October!
It’s the end of the work day, and I also completed some house chores and walked the girls.
What crosses my path when I sit down?
I love this movie: I also have the the book. Recently, the U.S. Coast Guard Tamaroa, which was active in the rescue efforts during that “Perfect Storm”, was sunk intentionally some 30 miles west of Cape May, New Jersey, in order to help make an artificial reef to aid the fishing industry. There had been a movement to try to turn it into a museum, but as the U.S.S. Zulu during World War II, the Tamaroa was pretty well beat up. Most favored her as an artificial reef, as opposed to scrapping her all together.
I often chuckle, and if you read my blog on occasion, you know I refer to our little Hamlet as ” Amity” due to it’s whaling history , and thankfully not sharks. The rest of the time when tourists are here, it turns into Amity.
Well, with” Jaws” as the most often played film on cable here, ” The Perfect Storm” is a strong contender for the second slot.
No complaints here!
I really have not entered a post since Thanksgiving.
“Amity”‘s little secret is that we turn into leaf city in November, as that is when everyone gets together and gets their leaves to the street, where our nonexistent curb would be:that is where the township comes up and vacuums the leaves with a couple of stray workers to pick up straggling leaves that would be left behind..lol.The joke is today is the first day listed of a “possible” pick-up, but hey, they gave us the same day last year and they were picked up December 14th. HAH..politics seldom change wherever you are.
This picture is a shot further up our street, showing our house and the avalanche of leaves waiting to be picked up.I had nothing to do with this, although I had offered to help Jim.He ran with the challenge of this, and I for one, will just be happy when the leaves leave, as the dogs can stop scratching from running through them. Yes, I know, I am a bad dog mom, but, I just can’t deny them their pleasure of sniffing who was there first and digging for buried treasure.
It’s only the 3rd of July, but most of the homes here,as I like to call, Amity, look like this picture of my neighbor’s house;that is, all decked out in red, white and blue.
Here’s hoping you and your families are happy, blessed, and safe this weekend. Please keep in mind, somehow, maybe your neighbor like me, had pups who hate fireworks. Go see your community fireworks or shoot yours away from pup homes. We thank you!
There are ads on the television for back to school, every fourth post on Facebook is about pumpkin- flavored everything coming back and I am in my own little version of the fictional Amity and what do you think is on the AMC?
Yup, Jaws is on the television.
It officially feels like August for me now. The only bad part is I have work tomorrow.Oh well..you have to take the bitter with the better.
I have IFC channel on and they were showing Jaws. I laugh as I type this because Undisclosed definitely could have stood in for Amity in the film.
When I was in College, I took a class in British authors which had three outstanding aspects to it. Number one was I met my buddy Kate, which means Kate and I go way back. Number two was the professor,Dr.Myers.She was British, the accent held my attention, and I was intrigued by the fact that she looked exactly like a female version of her brother, albeit thinner, who was the British actor, Robert Shaw. The third fact, led in by the previously mentioned second fact, was an easy A, because I adored the class.
So it goes without saying that for the past 34 years, every time I see the movie Jaws, I go back to that class and have only fond memories.
Oh yeah. The movie rocks too!
