It was a gorgeous day here today.
There was a slight breeze and I took the girls out for our 4 walks. We were enjoying the spring sunshine and breeze, but a funny thing happened during our third walk.
We were walking with my neighbor and her baby and while we were walking by the bay, a friend of mine was passing by.We met up with her in a few blocks, and she walked us back. She wanted the walk, she said, and we enjoyed her company. We all walked and talked and the walk back went by quickly.I felt bad though: my friend had a long walk back to her house.
I dropped the girls back at the house and I walked her back to her house. It felt good. Again, we were walking and talking, so it went by quickly. We said good-bye and I turned around and ugh! I had to walk back alone.Fortunately it was a pretty day, so it was nice. The weather is supposed to turn rainy tonight, so it made me want to savor the day.
I have to really thank Jackie Aschenfelter and the flip fitness class I took last year. Before I took this class, there is no way I could have done this walk. It was an awesome class and I miss my friends from it. Fortunately, I had the fit bit zip to follow it, and the magic number you see on the picture below shows a magic number I never reached before.
I had really rough back pain this week, and then when the orthopedic physician said about arthritis working in the equation, well, the pain in the head worrying about it was almost matching the pain in my lower back.
I forgot one thing. Flip fitness class.
Fortunately my instructor is always looking for feedback and ways that participants in the class feel that they can get more out of it, or benefit from it.I made it a point to let Jackie know about my back and we worked more core and stretches. It was insane, because I started the class feeling lousy, and left pretty well loosened up. Movement may start out as painful, but when you get things moving, it’s incredible how different you feel.
The funniest thing was we had some good laughs in class tonight, and my buddies and I laughed so hard there were tears coming out of our eyes,Fortunately Jackie is a good sport, because as much as we tried to stop laughing, we couldn’t….after all, laughter is the best medicine!
You need to come out and try this Flip Fitness Class. Message me and I’ll give you the vitals. Young, old, you move and you feel good!
That’s what I went through last week, when I couldn’t go to my Flip Fitness class.I still have my stitches in but by tonight, I was a little bit more secure in going.
There’s something about a Flip Fitness class that has us all together. We are in the same boat-trying to get our bodies mobile and feeling somewhat better about ourselves. When one person isn’t here, they are missed. We share what’s going on and in our own heads, we are happy to be going, because we know it HELPS us.The exercise and stretch is beneficial, but the laughter that we share is even more beneficial. At the end of what is often a very long day, it is a perk to be able to laugh off steam.
Look up Flip fitness classes, if you feel things like yoga or Zumba aren’t your speed yet. You’ll be pleased at the difference you feel in your body.
..is often an issue for me on Wednesday night when I have my Flip fitness class.
Sometimes I have to work until 5PM, and on other times, only 3:30.My Class starts at 6:15 and the last thing you really need is rushing a meal before the class. I have learned the hard way that it is not the thing to do.It’s hard when, especially like tonight, Jim was hungry, but willing to wait until I came home from class for dinner.
Since I have only the two of us to cook for, I consider myself luckier than a bunch of my buddies who have whole families to feed.Today, for me, was easy though.Jim has spaghetti and meatballs and I have a bowl of cereal. My Mother is probably turning over in her grave watching me eat cereal for dinner, but I have learned the bowl of cereal is light and I tend to sleep better when I am not fighting indigestion at 2 in the morning.
It’s a good solution, and it keeps me from picking on junk through the night. I am glad I finally figured it out!
When September returned, so did my Flip Fitness class-boy did I miss it!
The wonderful thing about Flip Fitness is that you are exercising: you aren’t home, on a sofa, stuffing your face or out sitting on a bar stool. You are actually feeling blood move through your body as you exercise.Your lungs are exhaling when you start your seated crunch and inhaling on the way up…it’s a great class to get your feet wet when you want to take charge of your body again, especially if you haven’t been, of late. After you’ve been to a few classes, you start to feel the accomplishment reflected in your body.
Even more fun is that we laugh. Really. We do. We crack up between exercises and talk about our day, our spouses, our bosses and with the exertion of the exercise, the laughter is the cherry on top.
Flip fitness is through the area: leave me a comment and I’ll message you where I go and the times.
Trust me:you’ll thank me!You’ll have a good ache from the exercising, and a bigger ache from the laughter!
I eventually want to really do yoga.
My flip fitness class incorporates some of the stretches of yoga in the class.I am sitting now watching a show on New Jersey PBS about the benefits of yoga as you get older-the show was called Easy Yoga, the secret to strength and balance.
They claim one out of three people over 65 will fall next year, and correspondingly, they will break a body part.I enjoyed this show because it actually told you about what you would do in yoga and how it would help your life, from a physical aspect.
It’s definitely something I’ll be looking into-God knows I have fallen enough.
Our instructor for our Flip Fitness class is on vacation for two weeks.
Whoo-hoo…well, because she gets to have vacation, naturally.
We had Jessica as our instructor tonight and it really was funny. Our instructor Jackie is infamous for not liking odd numbers of repetition for exercises. She tens to make us do ten and then tries to slip more in, We imagined her at her shore hang out, and we joked that we were sending vibes down to her every time we changed the count amount.**Don’t tell her, but we did actually do ten most of the time, but she doesn’t have to know that**.
The problem was we were tweaking some different varieties of exercises so, for example, the position might have been different but you had the same, if not better end result. Well, I was kind of getting into it, and hope I won’t be too sore when I have physical therapy tomorrow.
We had our Flip Fitness class tonight, and we had a few more people than last week which was great.I don’t know if it was due to a slight cool front that had moved through. It made the exercising a little more tolerable.
Our instructor,Jackie was there along with Jess, the young instructor who will have us for the nest two weeks.Jackie is going on vacation so we get to break Jess in solo. It’s funny, because Jackie started the class and then handed the class over to Jess.We were kind of razzing her last week about being so young, but she does know her stuff!
We keep busting on Jackie that each exercise that she has us do, there is a certain number of repetitions we have to do. Well, when Jackie does the count, the numbers go flying magically out the window. We usually do up to a count of ten when we do repetitions.Jackie doesn’t care for anything but ten. We decided to keep a loud verbal count so she’d know we know how to count too!
I have met some good friends through the class, and it’s great to be out among women who are enjoying some time together working on ourselves. We forget that, though, because laughter, being the best medicine, makes our hearts happy and the rest of the body falls in line.
Getting the body moving? It’s good to be able to do it!
I am climbing on my soapbox again to talk about my daily commute.
Back in my prior life, when we lived two blocks away from the train station, life was sunny. A nice morning train, a brisk walk to work;in short, no worries.
Then our house sold and we moved two miles further from the train. There lies the rub: the bus.
I honestly hate the commute. In order to get into the city I take the bus onto an expressway, where I lose forty-five minutes to an hour one way.It irks me because it is time I’ll never get back again in my life.Traffic usually sucks. If you aren’t entertained by someones’ blow by blow description of how their life is going, how their **fill in the blank here: sex life, date life, third marriage is going, well,I know, I know, read or something** Well, there’s only so much to read or listen to. I refuse to be chained to Verizon and use my hot spot to be on-line. Then, when the bus reaches center city, I get off the bus and wait for a second bus.
Did I mention I hate personal trivial conversations on a cell phone on public transportation?
Fortunately, I hope to God I get through this last stretch before I retire taking public transit. Pretty sad when I get to “treat” myself, thanks to my Flip Fitness class and physical therapy, and walk to the train station to get on a train that spares me the expressway. The indignity is I have to get OFF the train to get back on a bus to get home.
I won’t miss this at all.
There weren’t that many of us in our Flip Fitness class tonight, but we still had a blast.
Our teacher, Jackie, plays a variety of music for us to do the exercises to.Some from the fifties, sixties, all the way up to ” Happy”. With Jackie, tonight, was Jess, who was training with Jackie and she is just a baby, in a matter of speaking She just had a baby a little while ago, and looks fabulous forty pounds thinner. It was too funny, though, because when the seventies music was on,and I/we were singing, I was teasing Jess, saying that she didn’t even know WHO Three Dog Night were.My fellow classmates chuckled, as we are in the same age bracket. The kids today are a hoot, because sure they know all the songs: they either google or you tube them. As the class went on, we talked about transistor radios.I jokingly told Jess she needed to bring a nine volt battery for class next week for her transistor radio.
It is good to be able to exercise. It is better to exercise in a group. It’s the best if you can laugh while you are doing it.
Between physical therapy and my flip fitness class and getting to and from work, plus walking the girls, I try to keep moving.
Jim added a wee bit to that today.
He cleared out the cottage that we lived in every weekend for five months and actually set up my recumbent bicycle for me. I have been warming up in therapy on it for ten minutes before going on to my exercises so I actually used mine today. In therapy it is on slight tension, and I replicated it here, so hopefully I won’t be too sore tomorrow.
It feels good to have done the ten minutes today, and just as a thumb to nose gesture to myself,I did an extra thirty seconds, well, just because. Hopefully this is a step in reclaiming a home life that isn’t quite so depressing, a home life that will put us back in lockstep with the life we had at our old house that was pretty damn good.
In the office today getting ready to see the physical therapist again.
With my leg. The leg that wasn’t hurting me until this past Monday, AFTER I finished physical therapy.
I went to my flip fitness class last night and what a difference when you gently do something and when you did 10-20 repetitions of something that wasn’t that strong to begin with. I am hobbling around and am getting bummed out.I am walking like I need a knee replacement…oh yeah, I had two already.
I can understand the premise behind physical therapy and have benefited from it in the past. After the initial go round this time though, I can only wonder.
So my latest fall was this past Monday, and the soreness that followed was to be expected.
I went to my flip fitness class last night and the soreness that wasn’t too bad, well, it seems as if it were awakened by the exercise. Not too much fun, especially when you are left to go scrounging for rubbing alcohol to try to take the ache out. I thought I was using my head and doing moderate versions of the exercises, but I guess I was wrong. I came in here today like a Walter Brennan** remember the Real McCoys?** stand in. I have to admit it is not a really attractive look. The fact that I have been trying to cook healthier for us and now that it is getting warmer, introducing more fruit, well, when you are aching, you really just don’t give a hoot.
I can only hope that the ache dissipates for the weekend and on the mend becomes a permanent state.
I made my juice for this morning, which has more of the consistency of a slurpee.
I have spinach, kale, cucumber, celery, mango, strawberries and blackberries in my juice and I am nibbling on some dry organic corn cereal**channel Kix**.The day seems to be starting off in a relatively brilliant way.I have a frozen container of stony field for a snack and cottage cheese for lunch.
I took a day off from juicing and I have to admit I missed it. It is a kick in the pants to have to get up early and get things ready, but thanks to my Flip Fitness class I actually had some energy this morning to do it.
It can only get better!
Oh yes, I know, if you take care of your body they will be golden.
There are certain things that are just things that sneak into there, that is. arthritis. I am sure in this age of technology that all the computer work doesn’t help it any, and then, when you want to retreat into a hobby, your hands are numb.
I have decided to make it my mission to go into natural pain reducers, and see if they might help turn the tide.Jim also gets on me for being glues to my Iphone so maybe a little
less time on there might quiet things down too.
I am looking forward to my Flip Fitness class tonight, as a good stretch in there gets things right.
Make it a good day for you!
Adding all natural one grain dry rice to a smoothie made of kale, carrots, and apples is this morning’s breakfast.Part of me still jokingly is looking for vodka to turn the juice into a bloody mary. You have to get through all this stuff so the system will be cleansed thoroughly.
Why is it that “finding religion” of weight control is always in the spring, when you start moving around and the social season starts up again?I am going to give it a shot and try, and perseverance has to be a stepping stone to keep this going. The Flip fitness class has given me some movement back, and I know one thing.
It didn’t get on there overnight.
I went to my Flip fitness class tonight and it was rough.
Sure, you take an anti-inflammatory after you fall once or twice on the ice, but then going to the class tonight was almost like insult to injury. We laugh a lot in the class, and sometimes I get a little goofy to cover the fact that I am physically hurting.Tonight was no exception, especially when we did the slow stretching. It was as though all the muscles that tightened from yesterday’s falls were really letting me know they weren’t too happy.
I’ll keep plugging along, with hopes that spring being just around the corner.
I went to my Flip Fitness Class tonight and boy am I beat.
It’s a good thing: it gets me off the sofa and out of the house and with a bunch of friends and we are all in the same boat. What is really funny is that after we have been together for a while, we start laughing between each other and talking about stuff and it was nice to hang with folks like me.
I am glad that my friend Kathy got me into going to class.I am ready to go to bed once I finish this, because I am tired in a good way.
