Pancake Breakfast

The Property Owners’s Association runs a pancake breakfast on the third Saturday of the month.

That’s a shot of the guys in the kitchen making up pancakes and sausage.Jim is off on the right, doing the batter. We work the front,We take and deliver the orders ,deliver drinks and just help out.

It’s a nice way to participate in the community, and we have to do this next in May. I’m glad.,,,I have to rest up.

Fall in

Out this morning and it definitely had a feel of autumn in the air.

I was in a hoodie and was just comfortable. The clouds in my coffee matched the clouds in my sky, and the furgirls and I took it all in.

Looking forward to weather, the flannel sheets are on the bed, even though I have one or two windows open to sneak some fresh air in.

We are getting ready for a big weekend. Our Property Owners Association had their pancake breakfast tomorrow morning and we have a Moose picnic tomorrow afternoon. Most social activity we have had in a long time….whoo-hoo!

Easy Sunday

For all of my kvetching over the summer, it is my favorite time of year.

I am sitting on our front porch, with an occasional car going by, my neighbor talking to his pup in the yard, and the breeze stirring occasionally through the oaks.

Jim and I had breakfast out and that was a treat. I got back and had the girls out for a mile walk. Now we are all kicking back, and there’s hope that a few things might get done today, albeit at a leisurely pace.

Enjoy your Sunday.

Tomatoes, tomatoes…

Some cross my path in the office like the ones left in the big basket from the ship’s captain. Then one of my co-workers harvested her cherry tomatoes and brought a big supermarket bag full of tomatoes( albeit cherry ones) in the workroom. We keep watering ours, and the plums, Jerseys, and little cherries are coming in full force.

It’s bittersweet for me, as my Dad loved his tomatoes, and much to my Mom’s chagrin, used to stop at roadside stands to pick some up to take back home. He would cut up a big Jersey tomatoes and slice and cube it and eat it along with scrambled eggs for breakfast.Of course there would be a big slice or two of in his sandwich at lunchtime. He’d have a salad with a ton of tomatoes with his dinner.

Mom was like me: she was a purist.

Although I love a good slice of tomatoes on a tuna salad or a bacon cheeseburger, but Mom and I had our favorite.Fresh white bread with a little mayo and two big slices of tomatoes.

Think that’s on Thursday’s menu for lunch when I am home.

Breakfast of Champions

I always ate breakfast, as my figure through the years would advertise.

Then,I retired.

I would get up in the morning and get washed and dressed and get the girls their medicine. Then they are leashed up and away we go.Jim’s nephew would say the secret of losing weight is to have a little something as soon as you get up to within a half hour so you get your metabolism gets going.Good thought, but when you have had a radiation implant in your past, well, eating then leaving the house is not necessarily a wise idea.

Well, this morning we are up early. The girls are up and got medicine and walked. I am not eating the cereal advertised in the post,as the old schoolers in us would recognize Wheaties in a heartbeat.I am having a bowl of Special K protein and hoping for a good day.

It is the most important meal of the day:I do agree with that. Here’s hoping you had a good one.

October Beach

Jim and I had gone out to breakfast and when we were coming back home, we came back on the road by the bay.

I have become accustomed to nature: I followed nature all my life and never was so aware of it until we came down to the bay.I saw something I had never seen before.

Dolphins.

Sure, I have seen one or two in the waters before but there was an actual school of dolphins-there had to be at least ten of them.As I stood there, awestruck, never seeing so many so close, I figured I have to get a shot or video of the dolphins.

They must have been reading my mind. They saw a “human” and then laughed amongst themselves and said ” let’s split.”

I stood there and Jim told me they are like Amish. They don’t like having their picture taken.

**sigh**

As I walked away, I thought, this is my new home.

Awesome!

Fruit and cheese

Warmer weather has brought one thing out for me.

Lighter eating.

For the past two weeks my breakfast has been fruit and cheese and a few crackers with a little coffee or juice. Not the healthiest of breakfasts, I’ll admit, but at least the amount of fruit I’ve have been eating has increased ten fold due to this.I make sure the cheese is in there for protein to tide me over and there for I bit I had orange juice to keep my potassium up.

It sure feels good eating light, and I have to admit I do feel better doing it!

Down the shore everything’s alright

Today is the first day of summer, and it seems that anyone who could, made it down the shore to celebrate the longest weekend of the year.

It is an overcast day here at Undisclosed, although the sun has been playing hide and seek in the clouds. Unfortunately, at least to me,it is also humid, which is my least favorite of weather conditions. My only consolation is that there are maybe three more months of humidity and then fall shows up. My father, and my mom, too, on occasion, would remark about wishing your life away, but humid days, as I get older, well, I can do without.

Pancake breakfast is done, fresh shower under my belt, cold iced tea in my cup… life is good.

Happy First Day of Summer.

A Decent day

What is it about sixty degree weather that makes you want to take care of yourself, or, at least that’s what I have experienced.

I have suffered through the summer with no will to do anything, and now that the taste of sixty degrees has shown its face, I want to get my stuff back together and feel better, period, end of story.I am due to be encompassing on a new life’s journey and I’ll be damned if I want to feel like this all the time.

I have picked out some healthy recipes that I have made this week for us for dinner, and I am keeping my fingers crossed that the ball will keep rolling.Oatmeal and a peach this morning also seemed like a good start.

Maybe it’s the fact that I am listening to the soundtrack from Black Swan and maybe I want to feel as light and airy as the ballet suite…hahaha….anyway we want to feel better for packing it all in.

Let the games begin!

Last minute shuffle

Continuing the heat from yesterday,I had to put together clothes to wear into the office today.
That wasn’t an easy task, as I kept all my work clothes together when we moved but they were down in the hot cellar.

I had gone down half-dressed and had striped Capri pants on.What do you think that I grabbed to wear on top? A seersucker plaid shirt: truly an outfit you wish you had vertical hold for.Fortunately I was awake enough to realize my fashion error and changed pants! Whew! Crisis averted.

Managed to make it in to the office and got myself a smoothie and some fruit to boot. Here’s hoping that the 96 degrees gets over with quickly!

Stay Cool!

Lighter the better

They are calling for a string of 90 degree days and you just know how much I adore the hot weather.**read heavy sarcasm here**

Drastic times call for drastic measures.

The seersucker shirts have come out, and this morning I bought a fresh pair of sandals to replace the ones I bought last year during jury duty.Below is a picture of my breakfast of choice and there will be NO coffee coming in this body today- a ton of water, thank you very much. Although I know some folks will go ugh when I mention lunch, well, I can’t help it. I was brought up by Mom with cottage cheese with peaches. I have twisted it to cottage cheese and pineapple. it works for me, folks-I will try anything to keep it cool.

Here’s hoping if you are stuck in the heat, you manage to keep hydrated and if you have an elderly relative or neighbor, be a good person and check on them. You’d be surprised the amount of sealed shut windows you find because they think “It makes the house cooler.” Remember to have plenty of shade and water for your fur kids too!

Take it easy!

Almost 11 years later…

We went to Mass this morning,as we normally would on a Sunday.

Afterward,we went to a restaurant that we last went to on our honeymoon, almost 11 years ago.

We have changed, life has changed, but, most notably, how those prices have changed for everything that was on the menu.It was a pancake house: it wasn’t a steak house or seafood house- a pancake house.

Jim got plain pancakes and I got a plain waffle. I had coffee and Jim had orange juice. The small orange juice was $2.50 for a SMALL glass: we wondered if it was gold plated. Bacon, which we seldom have, was $3.75 for a side order.

Nice to know that we are still together, and our love has grown to beat the rate of inflation…lol

Enjoy your weekend!

McD’s

So, we get down to Undisclosed and the house is not demolished yet. What a surprise we had to find that our sewer had been capped off.

Hello, mcD’s.. We are here for breakfast, using free wi-fi and the facilities. It just goes to show you that you can’t appreciate something until it is gone.

Yes, I know it’s not forever,but I miss my bathroom 😦

The end result is going to be worth it- I know, I know… But there’s a lot to be said for creature comforts, such as bathrooms, showers, and running hot & cold water . I was a Girl Scout a lifetime ago and was stuck in a blizzard. Didn’t matter- it was a cabin with working plumbing. I was 12 years old.

41 years later? A little working plumbing would be nice .

Last morning at the home

I am alone with Zush and Kasia. Jim and our neighbor Mike are on their way back from the storage locker. We still have a bed and sofa to move while Jim still has the truck.

I gave the girls a good walk with some neighbors before I go out and finish putting together what needs to be done. As I sit here sipping some juice, I can only thank this house. I miss it already.

The Zush-2.0

It’s a Saturday morning and I am sitting in the back of Pet Smart, by the grooming area.No breakfast for Mother-daughter yet…

Zush is getting groomed.

I feel bad: for 11 1/2 years, I was her chief cook and bottle washer , as far as grooming went. I furmanatored her, brushed her, trimmed her butt, all the good things a dog mom should do.

Zush is now 12, and as the years sneak up on her, as they do us all, the heat is a bugger. My buddy Juls used to get Zush’s best bud, Brinley, what they call a puppy cut. Well, Zush isn’t going quite that short, but hopefully her undercoat will be knocked down a bit, and really, just so my girl will have some comfort in the heat.

Jim drove away as we went in, and Kasia was in the back seat looking sad- she always hangs with her sister. Hope she recognizes her when we are done.

Stay tuned!…

Sunday morning update

It’s Sunday morning and my hacking has gone down a bit. Thanks to Kate’s contribution of cough syrup, with a Sudafed chaser and an anti-biotic to boot. What amazes me is this was a mid-throat cough for three weeks and NOW decided to manifest itself as a sinusitis attack.

Now I am drinking some green tea and crossing over to the Pioneer Woman on Food network. I have kind of forgiven her for throwing oil over a sunny side up egg.I think I have come to appreciate her style of cooking, and wouldn’t mind if I could cook half as well.

**No coughing during the typing of the blog! Pretty nice!**

Anyway, Pioneer Woman is busy making Cajun chicken pasta…gotta go.

It’s all gravy

As usual for a Saturday morning at Undisclosed , I have my coffee by my side and am watching Guy Fieri cooking on the Food network. He is making chicken fried steak complete with gravy. …yummo!

We have guests this weekend, so it’s kind of early and they are still sleeping as is Jim. I have to admit….quiet is such a rarity in my life anymore- I adore it.

My fur kids have their two fur cousins visit, too, so dog play has them exhausted. I laugh because as soon as I typed that, Zusher raised up her head as to say,”Sleeping? I’m not sleeping.. I’m keeping you company!”

Always good having friends visit. The cherry on the top? Having a little time to kick back and enjoy the weekend.

The morning after

So day number 2 of my 53rd year has started.

We are out to breakfast at a spot called the Erma deli,a spot around five minutes from the house. I got a gift certificate, so we figured why not? The food here, allegedly, is good.

We ordered the two egg platter, and I got pork roll with mine and also rye toast. Jim ordered a two egg sandwich.

We’ll be back.
Good eats!
